Welcome to your Full Scottish, from our Cowcaddens Studio in Glasgow.
Full Scottish programme starts at 12:00 on Sunday 22nd July 2018
Lindi Harrison will be presenting this week’s Full Scottish and will be joined by James Dornan, Glasgow Cathcart MSP, and Ian Fraser financial journalist, writer and author of ‘Shredded: Inside RBS, the Bank that Broke Britain.’
With news of the cancellation of an Orange Walk which was planned to take place in Glasgow this weekend, we start by taking a look at the scourge of sectarianism in Scotland.
As unrest and violence resurface in parts of Northern Ireland, Theresa May visited to declare there would be no hard border between the Republic of Ireland and the North and no border in the Irish Sea, despite hard-line Brexiteers forcing through amendments which make a hard Brexit a more likely outcome of the EU negotiations.
Calls for a “Peoples Vote” referendum on the Brexit deal are growing in the week Vote Leave was fined and referred to the police for breaking electoral law. Should the Electoral Commission have greater powers to investigate and intervene when the rules are broken. Should political parties be able to hide the source of their funding through opaque trusts and other devices?
Which would bring us to President Trump, wouldn’t it? It is unprecedented for a US president to be accused of Treason, but as the Mueller investigation proceeds serious people in the US are now starting to question whether there is more to the allegations of collusion with Russia?
Friday saw the Spanish Supreme Court withdrawing the EU Arrest Warrants for the exiled Catalan politicians. This has removed the immediate threat of extradition for Clara Ponsati, however she would be arrested if she attempted to return home to Catalonia. On the up-side, we get to keep Clara with us here in Scotland.
James Dornan lives in the Glasgow Cathcart Constituency he has stayed in most of his life. He joined Glasgow City Council in May 2007 as the elected Member representing the SNP in the new Langside Ward. He was elected as the Leader of the Opposition in Glasgow City Council in 2008. In the 2011 Holyrood Elections, James was elected as MSP for Glasgow Cathcart and was re-elected in the 2016 elections.
On his last appearance on the Full Scottish, James James told us us about his determination to see an end to sectarianism in Scotland and that he would be putting all his energy into one of the worst issues which is, sadly, still an issue in Scotland in the 21st century.
