Full Scottish – 27/10/2019

Welcome to the Full Scottish from our Cowcaddens Studio in Glasgow.

Full Scottish starts at 12:00 midday on Sunday 27th October 2019

On the Full Scottish this week, Kenny McBride is joined by guests, Amanda Burgauer, SNP Candidate for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale and Anthony Salamone, political scientist with the Scottish Centre on European Relations (SCER) to discuss the big stories in the news this week.

Following this week’s tragedy of 39 people found dead in the back of a truck, while attempting to get to the UK, we look at the issues surrounding migration and asylum for refugees, issues often intentionally confused by the media and politicians.

Despite the denials by those put on the spot, migration has been the biggest driver of Brexit. Without the constant anti-immigrant, verging on racist rhetoric surrounding the leave campaigns and in the UK right-wing media, would there have been any interest in having a referendum in the first place.

In an ironic turn of events, it seems that intelligence cooperation between the US and the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces has resulted in a US Army let operation which has reportedly resulted in the death of Daesh leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

As pro-democracy demonstrations in Chile, Hong Kong and Catalonia are met with a violent response from the state, how can people peacefully demand respect for human rights and have their demands upheld and respected by the international community.

It looks like we will be heading towards General Election, possibly in December, but can an election resolve the divisions created by Brexit. Can the UK survive Brexit and will the people of Scotland exercise the Claim of Right to decide on Scotland’s future?
