Catalan Election Special – Analysis and interviews on Broadcasting Scotland
Cameron Archibald brings you analysis of the results and interviews with Pilar Aymara and Liz Castro in our Catalan Election Special.
Following the violence of the Spanish police trying to prevent Catalan citizens voting in the 1st October Independence referendum, the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy imposed direct rule from Madrid using article 155 of the Spanish Constitution and called new elections for 21st December 2017, expecting that the so called silent majority would come out and vote for remaining part of Spain.
His gamble seems to have backfired spectacularly as, despite pro-independence party leaders being in exile or in prison, once again, the majority of seats in the Catalan parliament have gone to the pro-independence parties.
